Cabin refit Winter, Spring and Summer 2003/4.
Part 7

We finally launched on the 20th of August but by then the date didn't matter - what did was that we had finished! Click on the picture for a larger image. Below are some detail shots taken before and after.
I am particularly pleased with the saloon deckhead. To show off I had a go at wood turning on the lathe and made the hardwood ring for the vent.
The cost of refitting the cabin and replacing the windows was just under £500 and if it lasts half as long as the 29 years the original fit out did I reckon it will have been excellent value for money. The most expensive item was the vinyl with glues and absolutely essential respirator masks. Do not tackle vinyl glueing without them! Curiosity got the better of me while applying the glue as with the mask on I could not smell any fumes. Were they as bad as I had been led to believe? I pulled the mask just a little off my face and had a tentative sniff. I did this so that you won't have to and believe me I did you a favour as the fumes are very unpleasant indeed - one little whiff was all I wanted thanks. But what about the half bulkhead at the cooker space? Now that it has gone there is no way to have a gimbaled stove! Well we don't have a stove but instead have one of those portable single burner jobs which we very rarely use. I am going to have a fold out chart table there instead. Geoff Marks 2004.
